Mizuho Crowd Brain Cohort 4,5 Demo Day Event

On Jan 10, 2022, in collaboration with AFF Accelerate powered by HK Trade Development Council (“HKTDC”), we held our forth online Demo Day event. On the InnoVenture Salon platform, 13 startups of cohort 4 and 5 introduced and showcased their innovation and technology solutions and demonstrated how innovative concepts can be commercialised for adoption in the business sector. With the support from HKTDC and partners, the event captured over 350+ audiences from venture capitals, corporates, business units and government agencies.

Mizuho Crowd Brain Cohort 2 Demo Day Event

On Dec 15, 2020, co-organizing with Eureka Nova of New World Development, we held our second online Demo Day event. Together with supporting organizations and partner companies, the event was widely broadcasted with over 100+ audiences from venture capitals, corporates, business units and government agencies.
For second cohort, our theme was Fintech and Urban-tech. Startup companies showcased their forward-looking ideas and solutions; as well as showed off their business progress since joining the Mizuho Crowd Brain accelerator programme.

Mizuho Crowd Brain Cohort 1 Demo Day Event

On July 28, 2020, co–organizing with Eureka Nova of New World Development, we held a Demo Day event, aiming to provide a platform to connect startup companies to expand their network for business development and better exchanges of ideas and innovation.

Due to the outbreak of the COVID–19 virus, the health of startup companies and event participants was of paramount importance. We moved the Demo Day event from our Mizuho Crowd Brain venue to an online setting. With 100+ wide ranges of audiences from venture capitals, supporting organizations, corporates, business units and government agencies; startup companies showcased their forward–looking ideas and solutions; as well as showed off their business progress since joining the Mizuho Crowd Brain accelerator programme.

Cofounders, Mellow

Chester Szeen and Teresa Chan are the cofounders of Mellow. The Hong Kong–based startup operates a personal finance and digital payment app, which is connected to a Mastercard debit card, to help children learn about money management, such as saving toward a goal and keeping track of spending. Last year, it was one of 18 graduates from AppWorks, an AI and blockchain–focused accelerator in Taiwan. In 2019, it was named as one of the 12 top startups of Jumpstarter, a not–for–profit initiative curated by the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund in Hong Kong. Mellow is supported by Cyberport, Accenture, the Japanese government, Mizuho Bank and New World Development.

Cofounders, Qupital

Founded in 2016, Qupital aims to provide financing to SMEs that are underserved by traditional banking institutions. The Hong Kong–based startup offers short–term lending and liquidity to companies and matches them with investors interested in covering the loan. Qupital claims to have funded loans and business invoices worth more than HK$1 billion (about $130 million). In March 2019, it raised $15 million in a Series A round of financing led by Chinese wealth and asset manager CreditEase FinTech Investment Fund. Its investors also include the Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund and Chinese VC firm Gobi Partners.

Mizuho Crowd Brain holds event to commemorate opening of Mizuho Crowd Brain accelerator program office

On October 21, 2019, we held an event to commemorate the opening of the dedicated office for Mizuho Crowd Brain, an accelerator program supporting the growth of startup companies throughout the Greater Bay Area encompassing Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. The event took place in the new Mizuho Crowd Brain office within the Mizuho Bank Hong Kong Branch.

In attendance were representatives from participating startup companies, program partners New World Development and Cyberport, and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. Also among the attendees was Deputy Consul–General Tsukasa Hirota of the Consulate– General of Japan in Hong Kong.

Mizuho Bank East Asia Department General Manager Tomohiro Fukagata and New World Development Head of Social Innovation Doris Luey gave opening remarks and introduced the program partners and startup companies. In the networking session afterwards, the attendees developed their connections further.

At the end of October, we will also host a seminar by a partner company on legal and tax issues. Going forward, the program will provide opportunities for mentorship on a range of business issues, matching with businesses and venture capital partners, and other forms of support to promote the growth of participating startup companies.
