Mizuho supports City Giving Day through community volunteering with City Harvest

At Mizuho, we are committed to making a positive impact in the communities where we live and work. Through our global Mizuho Volunteer Day initiative, colleagues are encouraged to dedicate time to supporting local causes, creating meaningful social impact beyond the workplace.

As part of this year's participation and in support of City Giving Day, colleagues from our London office volunteered with our charity partner, City Harvest, to help tackle both food waste and food poverty across the capital.

Split across two volunteering locations, colleagues helped recover surplus produce from an apple farm in Kent and sort donated food at City Harvest's Acton warehouse, contributing to the charity's efforts to ensure good food reaches people rather than going to waste.

Our volunteers gained a first-hand understanding of the scale and impact of City Harvest's work. Their efforts formed part of a wider network of support that helps ensure good food reaches those who need it.

Reflecting on the partnership, Daniel Nicholls of City Harvest said: "We were delighted to welcome a hard-working team from Mizuho who helped sort some of the amazing array of donated surplus food we receive, ready to go out to our community partners, feeding those in need across London. They helped us sort through more than 12 tonnes of food; the equivalent of 28,620 meals. Another great example of our partnership in action!"

“I’m really proud of the hard work that our teams put in across both locations,” said Caitlin Pallett, a member of the London Charity Committee team that organised this year’s event. “It was well worth the physical effort knowing that we helped deliver food multiple organisations across the city, including food banks, schools and breakfast clubs, and homeless and domestic abuse shelters”

The day highlighted the power of partnership and collective action in supporting local communities. Through initiatives such as Mizuho Volunteer Day, our colleagues have the opportunity to contribute their time and skills to causes that create meaningful social impact while supporting the work of organisations making a difference every day.
