Post BOJ Monetary Policy Meeting - Video Conference Call
Date: Thursday, 30 October 2025
Time: 08:00 UKT, 17:00 JST
We invite you to attend a post-meeting analysis following the Bank of Japan’s upcoming Monetary Policy decision, featuring insights from Shunsuke Kobayashi (Chief Economist) and Shoki Omori (Chief Desk Strategist for Rates & FX), both from Mizuho Securities, Tokyo. The session will be hosted by Evelyne Gomez-Liechti, Multi Asset Strategist, Mizuho International, London.
First female PM, Sanae Takaichi has stolen the limelight from the BOJ lately. Volatility in Japanese markets via the so-called "Takaichi trade" has been present, but the choice of Katayama-San as Finance Minister has tamed the reaction in JPY rates markets. Meanwhile, BOJ Governor Ueda has been facing increasing internal pressure from hawkish board members and persistent above-target inflation, both keeping expectations of rate hikes alive. October only has a 10% chance of a hike priced (and we think it is difficult to see the BOJ hike given recent communication), but could this be the meeting where Governor Ueda opens the door to a hike?
The session will begin with Shunsuke sharing his views on the implications of the BOJ’s decision for the Japanese economy (15 minutes), followed by Shoki discussing the impact on Rates and FX markets, including trade ideas. The discussion will be moderated by Evelyne.
We look forward to welcoming you to this timely and insightful event.
