Building brighter futures: How Mizuho is supporting the next generation of talent

Developing future talent starts long before individuals enter the workplace. By helping young people understand the breadth of opportunities available to them, we can equip them with the confidence and insight needed to make informed decisions about their future careers.

Through initiatives such as our School Partnership Programme and Discover Mizuho programmes at Mizuho EMEA, we create experiences that connect education with industry and enable young people to make more informed decisions about their future.

Creating pathways to opportunities

As part of Mizuho’s ongoing commitment to inclusion and social mobility, our School Partnership Programme is designed to engage young people from local schools that serve socio-economically diverse communities and raise awareness of careers across the financial services industry.

Students from our two partner schools – The Charter School East Dulwich and The Charter School North Dulwich – are regularly invited to join us for insight days into professional life in a financial institution. Whether it is hearing from our colleagues, engaging in career talks, or seeing our traders in action in our office, the students get a behind-the-scenes look at the world of work and the many paths it can offer.

"Of all the work insight days I have experienced, Mizuho’s stood out for the unique level of access it gave students to both senior and junior colleagues across a wide range of roles within the bank,” said Andrew Somerville, teacher from The Charter School East Dulwich. “The students’ understanding of the opportunities available has increased hugely, and the experience has been instrumental in sparking their interest in pursuing a career in banking – and, even more so, with Mizuho."

By building long-term relationships with local schools, we aim to help students develop the confidence, aspirations, and practical skills that will benefit them throughout their future careers.

Workplace insight and careers education

While the School Partnership Programme focuses on building sustained engagement with local schools, the Discover Mizuho Programme offers a unique opportunity for young people to experience life at Mizuho first-hand.

The programme brought together children of Mizuho employees and students from our partner schools for an immersive introduction to the business. Through interactive careers sessions, department showcases, and a taste of Japanese culture, they gained insight into the breadth of roles across Mizuho and the culture that shapes how we work.

Most importantly, the experience helped challenge the perception that banking is only about finance. By meeting colleagues from across the organisation and hearing their career journeys, participants discovered how a wide range of talents, interests and backgrounds can contribute to a career in financial services.

For many of our young guests, stepping into a parent’s workplace, meeting professionals, hearing their stories, and seeing a workplace in action helped make future careers feel more tangible. The experience encouraged them to look beyond traditional perceptions of banking and consider how their own skills and interests could connect to roles across financial services.
