Miami, United States, September 28, 2026 – Mizuho Bank, Ltd., the banking arm of Mizuho Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: MFG), one of the largest full-service financial institutions in the world, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group focused on the private sector, announced the launch of a US$1 billion risk-sharing facility to expand access to supply chain finance for suppliers and distributors in Asia-Pacific markets.
The partnership, formally marked at a signing ceremony during Sibos 2026 in Miami, combines IFC’s development-finance expertise and risk-bearing capacity with Mizuho’s international trade finance platform and global corporate client network. Under the facility, over the next three years, IFC will provide up to US$500 million in risk-sharing for a portfolio of supply chain finance instruments, including payables finance, receivables financing, and pre-shipment financing programs.
The facility is designed to help address persistent working capital constraints faced by suppliers and distributors - particularly small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) - in Asia-Pacific markets. By enabling businesses to obtain financing linked to the credit strength of their buyers, supply chain finance can help companies meet production needs, scale operations, and create jobs.
“Global supply chains depend on the strength and resilience of the suppliers and distributors that keep goods, services and trade moving,” said Ken Masamoto, Head of the Global Transaction Banking Unit, Mizuho Bank. “This partnership with IFC reinforces Mizuho’s commitment to using our global trade finance capabilities to support clients and their supply-chain ecosystems. With IFC’s risk-sharing support, we can broaden our financing capacity and help more businesses in emerging markets access the working capital required to operate with confidence, respond to demand, and grow sustainably.”
The facility was structured through IFC's Global Supply Chain Finance (GSCF) program, which since its launch in 2023 has supported over $3.8 billion in supplier finance transactions.
Nathalie Louat, Global Director for Trade and Supply Chain Finance at IFC, said, “Access to working capital is one of the most powerful levers to enable businesses to trade, grow, and hire. By partnering with established financial institutions like Mizuho, IFC is mobilizing private-sector financing at scale, directing it toward the suppliers and distributors that anchor supply chains and sustain employment across Asia Pacific and beyond. This facility demonstrates how strategic risk-sharing between development finance and commercial banking can unlock capital that would otherwise not reach the businesses that need it most.”
Supply chain finance is a critical tool for supporting cash flow across buyer-supplier relationships. It allows eligible suppliers to receive earlier payment on approved invoices, helping them reduce the gap between delivering goods or services and receiving payment. For distributors, access to financing can also support inventory purchases and business continuity, particularly during periods of heightened market volatility or extended payment terms.
The partnership reflects Mizuho and IFC’s shared commitment to developing scalable, market-based solutions that strengthen trade ecosystems and broaden financial access. It will support the flow of financing to businesses across Mizuho’s supply chain finance portfolio, helping to reinforce commercial linkages between multinational buyers, local suppliers, and distributors in emerging markets.
