John Roberts

The 4-person North American Chemicals Team (includes 3 MBAs, 2 accountants & chemical engineer) is known for its significant Wall Street experience (60 man-years), strong Corporate Access, and breadth (34 stocks) of industry coverage (consumer/tech chems, agricultural, basic chems & industrial specialties). The group has done thoughtful analysis of what differentiates specialty chemicals from basics, how basics chemical cycles work, and how to compare return on adjusted capital over cycles and between the diverse set of companies. The team also works closely with our #1 ranked 4-person Japan chemicals team & recently profiled Japanese chemical investment in the U.S.

Mid-Atlantic Bus tour, Chemicals Conference, multiple NDRs & company dinners at the World Petrochemical Conference. The bus tour includes executive meetings with DuPont, Corteva, Air Products, Ashland, Chemours, FMC, IFF & RPM. The NYC chemicals conf. (in conjunction with Industrials) will feature a diversified set of basic & specialty companies. Dinners at the WPC (largest industry conf.) featured Dow, LyondellBasell, Huntsman & Westlake Chemical. We also host electronic chems (ESI this year) at the Mizuho Tech. Conf.

John joined Mizuho in Nov ‘23 as a Senior Analyst covering the chemicals and packaging industries.  John brings to Mizuho nearly 40 years of sell-side research experience covering chemicals, having served at several bulge-bracket firms and a leading boutique. He first ranked in I.I. in 1989, and has ranked regularly since. Roberts holds a Master’s in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University; Master’s in Finance, Accounting, MIS, Operations & Marketing from the MIT Sloan School of Management, and is a CFA and licensed CPA.
