Sponsoring the TOMODACHI Initiative

February 25, 2014

Mizuho Financial Group, Inc. (Group CEO: Yasuhiro Sato) announced today that we have become a sponsor of the TOMODACHI Initiative, a public–private partnership led by the US Government and the US–Japan Council that seeks to foster the next generation of young Japanese and American leaders.

As a sponsor, Mizuho will contribute to the TOMODACHI Initiative through the US–Japan Council and will be supporting several specific programs.

Mizuho is invested in the development of friendly and economic relations between the United States and Japan, and as such our interests resonate deeply with the activities of the TOMODACHI Initiative. As a global financial institution, we are pleased to be able to make a tangible contribution to TOMODACHI.

In the future, both in Japan and overseas, Mizuho will proactively work on nurturing the human resources responsible for the next generation.

About the TOMODACHI Initiative

The TOMODACHI Initiative is a public–private partnership, born out of support for Japan's recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake, that invests in the next generation of Japanese and American leaders through educational and cultural exchanges as well as leadership programs. The Initiative seeks to foster a "TOMODACHI Generation" of young American and Japanese leaders who are committed to and engaged in strengthening US–Japan relations, appreciating each other's countries and cultures, and possessing the global skills and mindsets needed to contribute to and thrive in a more cooperative, prosperous, and secure world.
