Mizuho Financial Group Recognized in the 2021 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index

January 28, 2021

We are delighted to announce that on January 27, 2021, Mizuho Financial Group, Inc. (President & Group CEO: Tatsufumi Sakai) was chosen to be included in the 2021 Bloomberg Gender–Equality Index, receiving this honor for the fifth year in a row.

As global investors seek to analyze a wider range of information when assessing a firm's reputation, value, and performance, the Bloomberg Gender–Equality Index brings a new level of clarity and awareness to community engagement and corporate governance information in terms of gender equality. This year, 380 companies from 44 countries (including 14 Japanese companies) were selected.

We were recognized in the categories of “Female Leadership & Talent Pipeline” and “Inclusive Culture“. We believe that this was due to the overall evaluation of our support for career development, including the appointment of female managers and strategic development programs for women, the development of an environment that supports diverse and flexible work styles, and the disclosure of information on these issues.

As part of talent development and creating workplaces that give employees a sense of purpose, which is one of our sustainability priorities, we have been promoting diversity and inclusion, including the advancement of women, on a global scale. In FY2020, we established a Diversity & Inclusion Promotion Committee chaired by the Group CHRO and composed of general managers in charge of business promotion in each division. Through the committee, we are striving to accelerate the promotion of diversity and inclusion as appropriate for each division's particular situation, and we are working to transform outdated mindsets and are continually striving to improve the work environment to ensure that each individual can fully utilize their capabilities.
