Mizuho wins Large Cap Deal of the Year at the Deal Awards 2021

September 28, 2021

New York, September 28, 2021 – Mizuho Americas today announced the T-Mobile and Sprint merger won Large Cap Deal of the Year at The Deal Awards 2021 in New York. The cross-entity deal involved teams across Mizuho Financial Group, where the firm acted as Financial Advisor to SoftBank. The merger created the third largest U.S. telecommunications company, with a combined company value of $146 billion.

“This award is a great example of the continued value we can create by delivering the breadth of our global capabilities, longstanding partnerships, and bespoke investment ideas to clients,” said Richard Gallivan, Managing Director, Head of TMT at Mizuho Americas.

The deal made SoftBank a 24.7% shareholder of the combined company, a position Mizuho later helped monetize through three additional deals that became the largest equity and convertible, dual-tranche transactions ever.

The awards, presented at a ceremony at the Essex House, seek to recognize and celebrate the advisers, professionals, firms, and banks driving the market forward. The deal was also shortlisted in the Large Cap, TMT Deal of the Year category.
