What do you do at Mizuho?
I manage Mizuho’s HR Information System and ensure the integrity and security of all HR information, as well as, leading system-related initiatives related to payroll processes and compensation analytics. I also collaborate with managers to design custom dashboards and metrics to facilitate analysis of employee data for internal reporting purposes.

What surprised you about Mizuho?
When I accepted the HR position at Mizuho, I had only heard others speak of Mizuho’s corporate culture as very different from many US-based corporations. After just my first week, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that not only was the culture different, but it was better than that of any place I had worked previously. The collegial environment, the level of respect among employees, and management’s "open-door” policy all make for a more enjoyable workplace. Also, while I certainly expected to be challenged and work with very smart people, I was constantly impressed by the high caliber of people I have met throughout the company. I strongly believe that our culture and people are our greatest assets.

What’s the first thing you read every day?
I try to read the news every morning, even if it means just quickly browsing the headlines on my way to work. With all that is happening around us today, it's important to be informed on current events here and abroad.

How have you grown since joining Mizuho?

My experiences with other cultures have reminded me of the importance of maintaining a good work-life balance and making time for myself. While work is very important and rewarding for me, I’ve found that spending time with my family, traveling, and pursuing hobbies are equally as significant. At Mizuho, you have the flexibility in terms of balancing your professional development and personal interests as well as the ability to build your career path.

What’s one thing you've learned while at Mizuho or in the industry?

I was tasked with handling a unique request from senior management for year-end reporting. I had no prior experience in making those types of technical adjustments so I had to use various resources to quickly teach myself how to reconfigure certain database functions. I was able produce the report based on management’s specifications and the information and insights it provided were used to make important business related decisions. Being at Mizuho has allowed me to have more confidence in myself. By allowing me to experience challenges in a safe and supportive environment, Mizuho has enabled me to test my limits and succeed.
