What do you do at Mizuho?
I’m in fixed income derivatives sales, primarily interacting with Japanese clients. Due to changes in US financial regulatory environment, my role has evolved into front office  regulatory compliance work, drafting policies and procedures, along with other projects relating to effectively functioning trading operations and expanding business.

What surprised you about Mizuho?
There’s a high proportion of employees with many years of service at Mizuho. I notice frequent turnover, especially in the front office of other firms. It’s a testament to the camaraderie and tight knit community here. The environment encourages communication and assistance across departments.

How is Mizuho different from other places?
The boutique feel of Mizuho allows for a more hands-on work experience, where it's easy to locate appropriate people to direct specific questions to when working on projects. I feel deeper professional and personal relationships are formed here that last well beyond life at Mizuho.

How have you grown since joining Mizuho?
I've learned to effectively communicate with other departments, and be extremely meticulous. I strive to improve workflow even if it's not my own and have developed a well-rounded understanding of the industry thanks to my cross-departmental projects.

What’s one thing you've learned while at Mizuho or in the industry?
We must be nimble, accommodating changes. Market environments and regulations are constantly evolving. In order to keep up, we cannot be stuck in check-the-box routine work, but rather remain innovative.

What do you do for fun?
I love exploring new countries and learning new cultures. It helps in developing interpersonal skills, and I find these cultural practices can be inspirational.
